Each line should have around 50 to 60 characters including spaces. Each page should have approximately 40 lines. If this is followed, then there will be 250 words in one page.
Using styles can help you create uniform text, paragraph settings, character spacing, and other qualities to selected portions of text. Make you title in one font size and bold style. The chapter headings in a smaller font like Times New Roman, and the body can be in Verdana or whatever font you like best. When you use styles, the look of your book will be consistent. Using styles is also beneficial because when you want to change a certain attribute of the text in the paragraph, it is very easy automatically change everything else.
Headers and footers should have chapter titles and page numbers. This can be done by opening the header and footer tab from the view tab of the word toolbar. Then you can start typing whatever you need for your header and footer.
